We had a visitor a few days ago to our fire escape:

hawk

hawk2

I posted this today because , as I was taxiing the plane in Bedford, I saw a hawk exactly like this one perched on top of a taxi light (one of those little lamps you see at the side of the runway). It was early morning, and it was just really cool seeing a hawk just perched on top of a two inch-wide lamp looking straight at you.

I had a great day today, we closed the quarter at work, I got my 3-airport sign-off from my instructor and I’m ready to make history on the side. Bring it on.

“Three-Oh-Three Echo Charlie, cleared for take-off, right close pattern”

At 700ft, put your flaps in. At about 1,000ft, put your prop back to about 3,500rpm and your throttle back to 23in of manifold pressure. Turn right, coordinate with your rudder. At midfield, call the tower.

“Three-Oh-Three Echo Charlie, number one, cleared for the option”

Ok, now cut your power. Look for the windsock. There’s some drizzle, so it’s humid–get that carb heat in. Make the turn now. One notch of flaps. You’re too high. Nose down. Put that RPM to full. Full flaps. Over the numbers now. Nose up, nose up, nose up. On the ground.

Going Solo

I flew solo on Friday. The feeling was, well, of dream come true. My trusty steed and its “snowmobile engine” performed flawlessly, and even forgave a “bounce” on the second landing. And on we go!

Electric Six

In my wanderings through wikipedia I found out that one of my favorite (arguably) one-hit wonders – Electric Six- did a version of Queen’s Radio Ga Ga as a promo video. The video itself is hilarious, with Electric Six’s frontman Fick Valentine playing a eerily life-like ghost of Freddy Mercury (A.K.A. Farrokh Bulsara). Most Queen fans were appalled at the video, but I think if Freddy really called himself British he would have laughed his ass off out of seeing his persona playing chess with French poodles.

I just updated my blog to version 2.0.1 of Wordpress, from its rusty 1.5 previously running. I took care to backup everything, make sure that when I manually updated it that my custom configs wouldn’t be erased, etc. Well, turns out that absolutely nothing changed, no major screwups, no undefined calls to databases, etc. For you guys it won’t change much as well, so I was kind of disappointed. On my end, the interface is cleaner and got a couple of new features but, pardon the pun, nothing to write home about.

So I figured you guys still deserved a treat. As you may notice, I’ve added a few new “strips” to the top of the page. These were taken both in my trip to North Adams, MA with Austin and the trip to San Salvador, Bahamas. Enjoy the eye candy!

I don’t speak Vietnamese, but this is what I’ve been told is the caption of the following picture.
